Nancy O'Dell's broadcast career began as a reporter and anchor for WPDE-TV Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She later became a morning news anchor and crime report at WCBD TV. While in Charleston O'Dell's reports about the relaxed approach police take towards DUI cases caused the launch of a State Law Enforcement Division investigation which resulted in the state authorities re-issuing a more stringent directive regarding the situations. Ms. O'Dell received recognition from The Associated Press with the Best Report of the Year Awards to all media South Carolina. Her work in Charleston was the reason she joined as co-anchor and investigative reporter and NBC's Miami WTVJ-TV. Before becoming a part of Access Hollywood she was a weekday co-anchor as well as the weekend anchor for NBC. In addition to her current work as a lead anchor on Access Hollywood Ms. O'Dell is also an anchor for NBC News' Today and in addition for Dateline NBC. She covered events such as The Oscars, The Emmys, The Grammys, and The Golden Globe Awards. As well as co-hosting the Pre Show Arrivals to The Emmys & The Golden Globes. Co-hosted also for the Miss USA pageant and the Miss Universe pageant.
